Interests in 2006/2007 Winter Season Anime

December 17, 2006 on 6:07 pm | In Announcement, Anime Review | 6 Comments

I’ve now updated the entries with air dates and opening and ending themes (if known).

I know that I’ve utterly slacked off in the past two months and pretty much stopped updating this site, and I blame schoolwork for the most of it. Winter vacation starts today for me, so perhaps I can spend the next three weeks catching up with all of the missing entries. For the record, I’m currently watching Code Geass - Lelouch of the Rebellion, Death Note, Kanon, Otome wa Onee-sama (Boku) ni Koishiteru, and Sumomomo Momomo ~Chijou Saikyou no Yome~.

Now looking ahead to the upcoming anime season: 2006/2007 Winter. The following list contains shows that I have at least a passing interest in and spans from December 2006 through February 2007, in alphabetical order. Anime that are scheduled to air in next March and on are counted in the 2007 Spring season or later.

Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight!
Air date: January 7th, 2007
Opening Theme: A Happy Life by Hayashibara Megumi
Ending Theme: Lucky & Happy by Hayashibara Megumi
Interest: Middle
Story: It is the year 2035, and many schools are facing the danger of closing
because of the declining birth rate, which equates to less students. One such school is the Seiou Private School, where a transfer student, Amamiya Manabi, begins a whole new wind.
Impression: New loli goes to school and meets other lolis? An apocalyptic future
in which loli production is in decline? Is this Hidamari Sketch meets Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora? Like Hidamari, I think this can go either way, either really boring/cheesy, or really genki and cute.

Hidamari Sketch
Air date: January 11th, 2007
Opening Theme: ??? by Asumi Kana, Mizuhashi Kaori, Shintani Ryoko, Goto Yuko
Ending Theme: ??? by ???
Interest: Middle
Story: Yuno enters the Yamabuki Private Art (high) School and starts living by
herself in the nearby apartment complex, Hidamari Condominiums. She meets people from her school in the apartment and plenty of crazy things happen daily there, because the Hidamari Condos are infamous for the odd artists who dwell there. Even though Yuno hasn’t gotten used to her new life, she feels the kindness and warmth of the people and her friends, as she slowly heads toward her dream.
Impressions: This sounds like a slice-of-life sort of thing, and I’m very iffy when it
comes to the slice-of-life genre, as some shows can be incredibly slow and boring. I don’t see a male harem lead in the show right off the bat, so I’m counting on the condo residents to be crazy enough to keep the show rolling.

After the First Week of 2006 Fall Season…

October 8, 2006 on 9:39 pm | In Announcement, Anime Review | 3 Comments

I’ve watched pretty much every show that I had a passionate or passing interest in, save for a few that I simply didn’t have the time to watch or Bartender, which is premiering on the 14th. Yes, I’m still planning to watch it to laugh at it.

Code Geass - Lelouch of the Rebellion
Blogging: Yes
The mecha content wasn’t as bad as I thought it’d be. I’m sold on the CLAMP bishonen and crazy Geass power.

D.Gray-man
Blogging: No
This was too dark, simply put. If it had more sunshine like, say, FullMetal Alchemist, then I would’ve wanted to see another episode.

2006 Fall Season Anime…

October 1, 2006 on 12:00 am | In Announcement, Anime Review | 1 Comment

Anime shows that I’ll watch the first episodes thereof and hopefully blog for real-

If you’d like to see a series blogged on this site, please leave a Comment!
(Note: I can only blog up to four shows a week)

Code Geass - Lelouch of the Rebellion
Highlight: Teen angst
Premier Date: October 5th
The characters are designed by CLAMP, whose art I adore, but I don’t like war or mecha. It sounds like the story will also go CLAMPy with ANGST! struggles between extremely-hot Bishie #1 and not-as-hot Bishie #2. I see this series is in for a very big angsty yaoi fandom and doujinshi circles.

Death Note
Highlight: Genius vs. Genius
Premier Date: October 3rd
It’s Death Note, after all. I’ve read all of the manga and it was good…until L left and the Light/Mello/Near got kind of stupid. I’m hoping that the anime will just run up the halfway mark and never go into the “seven years later” arc. Gah.
