Laying Off Blogging Code Geass, Because WS Version Exists

December 19, 2006 on 5:35 pm | In Announcement, Anime Review, Code Geass - Lelouch of the Rebellion | 1 Comment

I’m going to stop blogging Code Geass - Lelouch of the Rebellion (as if I haven’t already) for a month or two because I’ve noticed that it was originally animated in widescreen, or a 5:3 dimension of some sort. I’d like to blog a series in its original, full glory.

See comparison screenshots below: (The top row is unedited, the bottom row is what I’ve found on TV thus far)
Please ignore the difference in coloration; that’s just my Photoshop messing up.

I’m assuming that the uncut version would come out on the DVD releases, so until I get my hands on the DVD episodes, Code Geass is not going to be blogged (unless it’s the final episode).

Interests in 2006/2007 Winter Season Anime

December 17, 2006 on 6:07 pm | In Announcement, Anime Review | 6 Comments

I’ve now updated the entries with air dates and opening and ending themes (if known).

I know that I’ve utterly slacked off in the past two months and pretty much stopped updating this site, and I blame schoolwork for the most of it. Winter vacation starts today for me, so perhaps I can spend the next three weeks catching up with all of the missing entries. For the record, I’m currently watching Code Geass - Lelouch of the Rebellion, Death Note, Kanon, Otome wa Onee-sama (Boku) ni Koishiteru, and Sumomomo Momomo ~Chijou Saikyou no Yome~.

Now looking ahead to the upcoming anime season: 2006/2007 Winter. The following list contains shows that I have at least a passing interest in and spans from December 2006 through February 2007, in alphabetical order. Anime that are scheduled to air in next March and on are counted in the 2007 Spring season or later.

Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight!
Air date: January 7th, 2007
Opening Theme: A Happy Life by Hayashibara Megumi
Ending Theme: Lucky & Happy by Hayashibara Megumi
Interest: Middle
Story: It is the year 2035, and many schools are facing the danger of closing
because of the declining birth rate, which equates to less students. One such school is the Seiou Private School, where a transfer student, Amamiya Manabi, begins a whole new wind.
Impression: New loli goes to school and meets other lolis? An apocalyptic future
in which loli production is in decline? Is this Hidamari Sketch meets Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora? Like Hidamari, I think this can go either way, either really boring/cheesy, or really genki and cute.

Hidamari Sketch
Air date: January 11th, 2007
Opening Theme: ??? by Asumi Kana, Mizuhashi Kaori, Shintani Ryoko, Goto Yuko
Ending Theme: ??? by ???
Interest: Middle
Story: Yuno enters the Yamabuki Private Art (high) School and starts living by
herself in the nearby apartment complex, Hidamari Condominiums. She meets people from her school in the apartment and plenty of crazy things happen daily there, because the Hidamari Condos are infamous for the odd artists who dwell there. Even though Yuno hasn’t gotten used to her new life, she feels the kindness and warmth of the people and her friends, as she slowly heads toward her dream.
Impressions: This sounds like a slice-of-life sort of thing, and I’m very iffy when it
comes to the slice-of-life genre, as some shows can be incredibly slow and boring. I don’t see a male harem lead in the show right off the bat, so I’m counting on the condo residents to be crazy enough to keep the show rolling.

Death Note Episode 7: Clouded Sky

November 16, 2006 on 7:23 pm | In Anime Review, Death Note | 4 Comments

The last minutes of this episode turned out to be the most pathetic rendition of “Sad Girl Light & ex-FBI Woman in Snow” that I’ve seen.

Code Geass - Lelouch of the Rebellion Stage 6 - The Stolen Mask

November 11, 2006 on 5:18 am | In Anime Review, Code Geass - Lelouch of the Rebellion | 9 Comments

Yeah, I’ve skipped over two episodes to post this… >_> **stares at backlog**
This episode takes a break from the drama of the last five and showcases the students of Ashford Academy instead. Lelouch is out of shape, or at least less fit than Suzaku. He needs to stop playing gambling chess and get out more.
It’s now safe to say that Pizza Hut is bound to show up in every episode, either in some hidden-away corner or blatantly in view.

Death Note Episode 4: Pursuit

Continuing from the last episode, Ryuk informs Light of a stalker, which causes Light to be nervous over the fact that he now has a #1 Fan.

Death Note Episode 3: Transaction

October 23, 2006 on 11:21 pm | In Anime Review, Death Note | 2 Comments

The opening sequence got a makeover. Some scenes have changed or recolored. Close-ups of L’s eyes and Light have been added. I’ve made comparison screen captures; the formers are from episode 2 and the latters are from episode 3.
