Lovedol ~Lovely Idol~ Episode 1: Are You a Lovedol?

Opening Sequence
Theme: Koi, Hajimemashita!
Vocals: Nogawa Sakura as Sakaki Mizuki

The OP animation was below average, in my opinion. Stock footage from the beginning of the sequence was reused toward the end of the OP. Overall, the OP wasn’t flashy and moved at a very slow pace. I’m starting to like Tokimeki Memorial ~Only Love~ more…

Ending Sequence
Theme: Love Love Love no Sei na no yo!
Vocals: Lovedol

The ending animation looked a lot better than the opening’s.

Highlights:
-Lovedol (Lovely Idol) is a loli-fied version of American Idol.
-The fans are grown men. Ewww.
-The twelve girls who sing are from the first two seasons of Lovedol.
-The third season, with the four girls in the dressing room, is postponed, because the company president believes they are still inadequate.
-The manager of the girls is Tomohiro and he is determined to make the show go on.
-The girls, Miu, Kotoha, Mai, and Hina, get cheered up when Tomohiro shows them the main stage where the twelve girls performed earlier.
-Tomohiro has a cheerful and all-too-friendly little sister, Ruri, who thinks inadequate = they need six girls, just like what the last two seasons had.
-The third season girls practice their routines as usual the next day, determined to not give up, either.
-Ruri approaches the company president with something important to ask.
-Tomohiro passes by a strange girl with a wonderful singing voice on his way home.
-He stalks the girl for a while before offering her to work with Lovedol, which she rejects.
-The girl, Mizuki, claims that she doesn’t like singing and only does it for revenge.

Next episode: “Is it NG?”
Note: NG means No Good, or outtake/failure in Japan.

Impression
I liked the singing at the beginning of the episode, even when it takes up about a quarter of the whole thing. I’m the kind of person who’d break out in horrible karaoke in elevators. XD
Three major factors determine whether I’ll watch a show for real or not: plot, art quality, and character depth/development. For Lovedol, the art quality goes down in flames within the first five minutes of the show. The plot is mediocre (must put out the 3rd season of Lovedol, what is Mizuki’s ‘revenge’ thing, romantic relationships), and it’s hard for me to think that the characters have any more real depth than the physical cookie cutter mold they came out of.

I’ll watch one more episode of this anime, but I’m not going to blog it anymore. What I liked about the show in the first place was the musical factor, and I don’t need to watch it to download and enjoy the music alone.
