Kanon…the 2006 remake…
Gorgeous art, interesting characters, adorable work from the voice actresses, clear underlying plot and possible subplots…
So why is it not working for me?
I sat down and watched through the first episode Kanon a couple of days ago, and I found myself unable to be captivated by Kanon long enough to stop working on a Mars terraforming project. I felt relieved when the episode ended as I knew that I wouldn’t have to watch another episode for a week…if I ever wanted to. Kanon, the show hyped by so many sites/blogs/people because it was a great piece of work in the past and should be, too, in this 2006 remake, has failed to capture my interest.
It’s like the Suzumiya Syndrome all over again.
I remember feeling the same thing after watching the first three episode of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, handed to me by a friend, that the series shine with awesomeness, that Haruhi is GOD, and that I need to break out in a Mikurun-run☆ meido outfit someday. However, I felt zero urge to watch the series. A few minutes into each episode, I just begged it to get over with it already. Somehow, Suzumiya the show didn’t click with me. I love the characters, I love the posters, I love the songs, but not the anime.
It’s happening all over again with Kanon, and I don’t know why.
I feel sad for not being able to love this adorable series.

Wow…Kanon failed? It’s probably because it’s progressing too slow, but it definitely didn’t fail for me.

i wouldn’t say it failed, but it didn’t capture me wholly, not like asatte no houkou @_@;;;

Of course Kanon fails, as wholly and succintly as Suzumiya Haruhi failed. It’s not good anime. It’s just very, very beautiful visually.
The main reason I run the tracker isn’t because I’m wtfobsessed with Kanon, but rather because I’m amused by how ridiculous it is for other people to actually become absorbed in the shit and enjoy it.

It failed for my sister and me as well. We dropped it after we watched 4 minutes of the first episode.

Anyone who judges Kanon or Haruhi (especially Haruhi) on the first ep fails hard. It’s like watching the first 5 minutes of a movie then saying it sucks.

AHHHH i must agree with stalker-san(scary name bub) of all animes i’ve watched this is the most captivating and emotional i’ve ever seen
haruhi was a good anime but kanon tops it by far in my personal opinion
(what sorts of anime do you like if your not into kanon\haruhi?)

im with the stalker here. this anime was ment to go a bit slower than the original visual novel to anime version was. mostly because in the first episode…well shoot all the way to where i am right now with 23 waiting desperatly for 24, the story follows closer to the visual novel. especially yuichi. the sheer emotional drama alone was enough to keep me going. but it was more than that. when i went through the visual novels, i developed a nostalogic feeling. but then i dunno how many others can understand japanese, but i experianced something similar with kana. in it that you are given a scenario of kanon and then as you progress you get these memories of something that happened in the past while building towards something to come. a strong example was makotos storyline (personal favorite. 2nd was mais.)
i digressed. anywho. watching the first episode then saying “well its moving too slow” is a bit brash. i respect your opinon and i simply have to say that it was great up untill now. and here i am last series eppy left and possibly 2 ova versions of the spring special if we are lucky then it will be all over but the crying (unless if youve done that already. guilty on the makoto storyline ending.)

i’m currently watching kanon ‘06 with my dvd and i really find it interesting… really really interesting. maybe the fact why i find it soooo interesting is that i haven’t seen the first version of kanon (2002),,, but the artwork is indeed better in this version.
i’m currently in mai’s storyline, and just finished with makoto, so far, i really love it! i’m so addicted to it right now, and it did got my attention.

I am only after watching the whole Kanon series and it was THE best anime I’ve ever seen! It is so beautiful and emotional, at times difficult to understand with so many twists and turns but definately my favourite anime now.

If you only watched the first episode of Kanon, you do not deserve to be judging it. Watch up to episode 16 then come back with a real opinion. ( I say 16 because that is when the Makoto arc ends, and if that episode does not touch you then I give up. )

Wow, what’s with all these people getting touchy? If you don’t like the anime, you don’t like it and you shouldn’t feel like you have to watch it.

Each person has his or her own taste. It’s okie to say you like this anime and hate that anime. But it’s just very impolite and …. to say something like “this anime is #@$@@ and I don’t know why some people love it”.
Regards.

If you only watched the first episode of Kanon, you do not deserve to be judging it.
